Day in the Sky, Watsonville

Take Flight for Kids, San Jose Reid Hillview Airport, San Jose California
150 Kids with special needs, Families, and Friends fly in private airplanes for free during a celebration-of-life festival celebrating accessible activities and assistive technologies for persons with disabilities.

Saturday August 9, 2008 will be a very special day at the San Jose Reid Hillview Airport in San Jose, California as Valley Medical Center Foundation of Santa Clara County, and Santa Clara County Experimental Aircraft Assocation Chapter 62 organizes free airplane rides to challenged children and their guests from all over Northern California.  Kids 8-17 years old with special challenges or disabilities were welcome.

Invited partner organizations include: Valley Medical Center Foundation (VMC), San Jose Reid Hillview Airport, EAA Chapter 62, AchieveKids, Axis Dance Company, Bridge School, Children's Hospital of Oakland, Clausen House, Disabled Student Resource Center, Environmental Traveling Companions (ETC), Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN), JW House, Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers, Morgan Center, Parents Helping Parents (PHP), Ronald McDonald House, San Jose Office of Therapeutic Services, Sensory Access Foundation, TransAccess. Do you know of any other organizations who might like to join us?  Let us know and we'll add them to our list.

Preliminary Agenda (subject to change)
  • 7am: Gates open for setup. 
  • 9am: Gates open to participants, First flight school starts.
  • 9:30am:Welcome to the Airport.
    • Ribbon Cutting and First Flight
    • Flight schools & Flights: every 30 minutes.
    • Static aircraft displays all day.
    • Demos from nonprofit organizations and vendors all day.
  • 11:30am: Lunch is served
  • 12 noon: Break for Speeches and Thank-yous (3 minute "speeches" max)
  • 1:00pm: Flights continue
    • Flight schools & Flights: every 30 minutes.
  • 4:30pm: Last Flight
  • 5:00pm: Gates close
  • 7:00pm: Cleanup complete
